SAN FRANCISCO – Today ITI, the global voice of the tech sector, is hosting Andrea Jelinek, chair of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB), to discuss key issues impacting the technology industry in the European Union and the United States.

"As the European Data Protection Board we are ready to share our experience and to contribute to the debate on the possibility of a U.S. data protection law at federal level,” said Andrea Jelinek. “And we do so, because we believe that in the end we need to ensure alignment between the privacy protections of different regimes across the globe."

“Europe’s GDPR has helped spur a global conversation regarding privacy and data protection policies in the digital age,” said ITI President and CEO Dean Garfield. “We thank Chairperson Jelinek for meeting with our member companies for a timely discussion of the GDPR, the recently completed second Privacy Shield annual review, and creating interoperability between the privacy laws in the the EU and the United States. These issues are complex, and the tech industry is committed to working with Chairperson Jelinek, the EDPB, and other stakeholders around the world to ensure global data protection laws protect citizens’ privacy, are interoperable, and promote the free flow of data.”
